Getting 2 Know Cheryl Foggo

Where do you feel most comfortable, and why?Cheryl Foggo:In my room there is a king size bed. When our daughters were younger and lived at home they liked to do their homework together on that plush expanse and dubbed it “the bed school”.  As the years passed, Miranda, the youngest, would sit cross-legged on the end with her guitar to try out for us bits of new songs she was writing. Chandra, the oldest, would lie with her hands behind her head to listen to passages from our work and then offer her insightful, useful feedback.  When they return home from their studies at UBC, we convene there for catch-ups and laughs. I wrote the entirety of my second YA novel from the bed school. I’ve heard you’re not supposed to work where you sleep, but I wake up fully rested every morning to the sound of the birds, the wind or my neighbour wheeling his bicycle down the alley. I guess I’m most comfortable on the bed school.

What charms you?

Cheryl Foggo: Music. I’m not usually fooled by people with false charm, unless they’re musicians. I love music so much that I’ve been guilty of believing that the ability to sing/play/compose like an angel equates to possessing a beautiful soul. Of all the arts, music goes most directly to my heart.
