Oprah Book Club List
Lists Tuesday, October 25th, 2011The Oprah Book Club List contains many quality choices for book clubs. The Oprah Winfrey Book Club began in 1996 with a discussion of The Deep End of the Ocean, a novel by Jacqueline Mitchard. The book club ran for fourteen years, until 2010.
Oprah’s book club has made numerous otherwise unknown authors famous over the years, and to be featured on her show meant instant success. When Oprah chose a book, readers all over North America bought the book and participated in her online book club, pushing sales of titles that had previously only sold a few thousand copies into the millions.
Wally Lamb comes immediately to mind as one of the first to become a literary superstar as a direct result of Oprah featuring two of his titles–She’s Come Undone and I Know This Much is True.
Oprah’s Book Club was arguably one the most well known book clubs in North America. Such an active and public book club may not have appealed to everyone, but her choices were inclusive and as far as book club lists go, Oprah’s is one of the best, as she has chosen many books of excellent quality.
