Reptiles on Caffeine by Brooke S. MustermanReptiles on Caffeine by Brooke S. Musterman. Warren Publishing, 2008. 112 pp.

Reptiles on Caffeine is an intelligent and delightfully witty book that recounts Musterman’s experiences while working in a coffee shop. Musterman describes a motly cast of characters and compares their human psyches to those of reptiles, noting the similarities between the human and reptilian brains.

The Author Says:

This work originally was intended to highlight the various random “quirks” that we all have, but in “gathering” my quirks I ran into a theme: the majority are stress related. When reading this book, keep in mind that the Café can be a pretty high-stress environment not just for the employees but for the customers as well. Speed is of the essence, and whenever speed is expected, stress is involved. Our response to fear or stress (of any level) comes from the brainstem, a.k.a. the “reptilian brain.”
