Gurjinder Basran on Everything Was Good-bye

Everything Was Good-bye by Gurjinder BasranAbout Your Book:

1. What do you think readers will find most notable about this book?

I think it has layers and therefor a broad appeal. At the heart, its a story about love and identity yet its also a story about cultural inheritance, family attachments, memory and loss.

2.  Can you suggest one question readers might find interesting to discuss, concerning you, your writing in general, or this book?

Absence plays a large role in the protagonist’s life. How does the absence of her father, sister, and lover inform the protagonists view of life and is the memory of absence different then the absence itself. How is this expressed through the narrative?

3. How can readers help you promote this book?

Tell a friend. Join a book club. I hope that the characters come alive for the readers in such a way that encourages a dialogue.

About You:

1. Why do you write?

I feel most myself when I am writing. As Betsy Warland says, “The page is my homeland.”

2. What quality do you most value in yourself?

I’m tenacious. I tend to believe that tenacity is just as important as talent and as such am a fiercely determined person. It’s exhausting at times.

3. In addition to writing, what else are you passionate about?

I am passionate about the people I love. Friends and family are everything to me. I also love a great glass of wine and have a penchant for fashion.
